Ragtime The Musical at The Noel S. Ruiz Theatre
The Noel S. Ruiz Theatre at CM Performing Arts Center – What: Ragtime The Musical Where: The Noel S. Ruiz Theatre at CM Performing Arts Center When: February 24, 2018 – March 24, 2018 Tickets: $16-$29 ($35-$40 for VIP) Ragtime is a compelling epic capturing the American experience at the turn of the 20th century. Tracking three diverse families in pursuit of the American dream in the volatile “melting pot” of turn-of-the-century New York, Ragtime confronts the dialectic contradictions inherent in American reality: experiences of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair. Over the course of the show, the worlds of a wealthy white couple, a Jewish immigrant father and his motherless daughter, and an African American Ragtime musician intertwine. Together, they discover the surprising interconnections of the human heart, the limitations of justice and the unsettling consequences when dreams are permanently deferred. Featuring many of the historical figures that built and shaped turn-of-the-century America, including J.P. Morgan, Emma Goldman, Harry Houdini, Evelyn Nesbit and Henry Ford, this musical sweeps across the diversity of the American experience to create a stirring epic that captures the beats of the American experience: the marches, the cakewalks and - of course, the Ragtime. Guitar Master Class with G.E. Smith
Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts – G.E. Smith was the lead guitarist in the band Hall & Oates and the musical director of “Saturday Night Live.” He was also the lead guitarist of Bob Dylan’s touring band and for the tour of Roger Waters’ “The Wall Live.” As a session player, G.E. Smith has performed and recorded with an exceptionally wide spectrum of influential artists. In the Master Class with G.E. Smith, G.E. will explore the guitar fretboard finding new ways to look at how to get around on the guitar. He will explain how to combine notes at different places up and down the neck and why those notes fit together to convey different feelings. Mostly G.E. hopes that everyone has fun. It’s called “playing” the guitar, not “working” it as G.E. would say. Limited Availability: $125 per student. To reserve a spot in G.E.'s class, call our Box Office at 631-207-1313. The class begins at 12 p.m. and goes through 5 p.m. There will be a one hour lunch break in between.
