Henry Rollins: Travel Slideshow
Academy of Music Theatre – DSP Shows: Henry Rollins: Travel Slideshow Friday, January 19th 7:30pm Doors // 8:00pm Show Academy of Music Theatre Northampton MA In describing Henry Rollins, the tendency is to try to squeeze as many labels as possible into a single sentence. “Rollins is many things,” says the Washington Post, “diatribist, confessor, provocateur, humorist, even motivational speaker...his is an enthusiastic and engaging chatter.” Entertainment Weekly’s list includes “Punk Rock icon. Spoken word poet. Actor. Author. DJ. Is there anything this guy can’t do?” TV Guidehas more concisely called him a “Renaissance Man” but if Henry Rollins could be reduced to a single word, that word would undoubtedly be “workaholic.”When he’s not traveling, Rollins prefers a to keep a relentless schedule full of work, with gigs as an actor, author, DJ, voice-over artist and TV show host to name a few of the roles that keep his schedule full. For many years, Henry Rollins has used his camera to document his travels around the world. Join Henry for an intimate evening as he tells the stories behind the photos he’s taken, from Baghdad to Timbuktu. Rollins will present a special performance drawing on experiences and his vast archive of photographs. “For many years, I have documented my travels all over the world with a camera. Not always easy but always worth it. Many of the photos have a stories behind them. Now and then, I gather several images, show them to an audience and tell those stories.” As a keen photographer, he will be bringing stories from travel all over the world, including the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, South America and Antarctica.

Ben Miller Band at The Iron Horse Music Hall
Iron Horse Entertainment/IHEG – Since its formation in 2004, the Ben Miller Band has staked out a singular niche that's established the Joplin, Missouri threesome as both a potent creative force and a perennial fan favorite. Any Way, Shape or Form, the BMB's New West debut release, showcases the seasoned threesome's fierce creative spirit and infectious performing chemistry, as well as Miller's melodically catchy, lyrically resonant songwriting. On Any Way, Shape or Form, the Ben Miller Band channels a century's worth of wide-ranging influences into 13 new songs that radiate with energy, smarts and soul. The result is music that's wholly contemporary, while ringing with ages-old echoes of bluegrass, delta blues, Appalachian mountain music and more. A stew they lovingly call "ozark stomp."

The Ventures at The Iron Horse Music Hall
Iron Horse Entertainment/IHEG – In 1958, Bob Bogle and Don Wilson formed the nucleus of the original music group, The Ventures. The duo was joined a few years later by Nokie Edwards to record “Walk, Don’t Run”. The song hit Billboard’s Singles Chart on July 18, 1960 and peaked at #2. The band became one of the most popular and biggest selling acts of the 1960s. Since that spectacular beginning, The Ventures have gone on to help define the Instrumental Rock genre. The band is credited by countless guitar legends as being a favorite or an influence. More than 50 years later – with record sales at 100 million plus – with 14 songs that hit the Singles Charts – with 38 LPs that hit the Album Charts (including their smash seasonal Christmas album) – with a lineup that remains solid – The Ventures style and sound is as pure and powerful as ever. The Current Touring Group Members of The Ventures are: Don Wilson – Rhythm Guitar – (co-founder in 1958) Gerry McGee – Lead and Bass Guitar- (joined in 1968) Bob Spalding – Lead and Bass Guitar- (joined in 1981) Leon Taylor – Percussion – (joined in 1996 after the passing of his father, Mel Taylor)

Desert Island Overture, a violent example of classical era tone painting, uses "sturm und drang" (storm and stress) to caue extremes of emotions. Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20, considered his most turbulent and Beethoven-ish works, is performed by Diane Walsh. Beethoven's bold Symphony No. 3, The Eroica (Heroic), celebrates the heroism of the individual against tyranny.
