Founder, Petfinder.com & 911FosterPets.com, CEO Heal House Call Veterinarian Betsy Banks Saul is the co-founder of Petfinder.com, one of the busiest web sites on the Internet. With a vision to change the way the public views shelter pets, Ms. Saul harnessed the infant technology of the Internet in 1996 and molded it into one of the most successful e-businesses to date. Petfinder, which Ms. Saul describes as a “social profit company,” is on a mission to see that no pet is euthanized for lack of a home. In November of 2006, Petfinder.com joined forces with The Discovery Channel, greatly increasing Petfinder.com’s ability to help pets worldwide. In 2013, Petfinder was acquired by Nestlé Purina. We have held small discussion groups where students can feel free to explore topics relating to welfare and ethics in a safe, judgment free environment. SAVE has also sponsored lunch talks and intimate discussion sessions with clinicians and educators dedicated to helping veterinary students navigate complex issues relating to ethics and animal welfare. Our hope is that through this club, students can gain the tools and knowledge to guide them through the ethical dilemmas they will face throughout their careers as veterinarians. Fiber of Our Being Reception
Worcester Center for Crafts – Join the Northeast Feltmakers Guild at a stunning exhibition of works created through the feltmaking process. "As felters, we work the wool with every fiber of our being. There is a direct connection from our fingertips to our medium with no separation as with a paintbrush or a stick of charcoal. Does our process begin with the wool or from someplace within ourselves? Is it a physical manifestation of our thought process or the physical force used to harden and strengthen wool into a firm structure?" An Artist Talk by Joy Muller-McCoola at 6PM will explore those questions. Free. The exhibit is up through November 18. A closing reception is also planned for November 11, 3:00-4:30pm. Felted Sculptural Vessel Basics- Classic, Complex, Organic A workshop with Carol Ingram November 4: 10AM-5PM Cost: $140 (additional $25 materials fee paid separately to instructor in class) A several ways depending on the desired result. Discover the transformative qualities of felt to create a pleasing vessel while experimenting with surface texture, design and sculptural techniques. All levels welcome! Paint your Pet: Multi-Pet Household edition
Worcester Animal Rescue League – If you’ve got more than one animal in your home or in your heart, this is the class for you. And it’s a fun way to benefit the Worcester Animal Rescue League. We’ll be painting multiple pets in a simple, easy style on an 8x10 canvas, following a step-by-step process built on a foundation of basic geometric shapes. Slightly different than our “Paint Your Pet” classes, this time we’ll be representing your finned, furry or feathered friends in a style that’s more like a cartoon. It will be easy and fun! No experience required and all supplies, as usual, will be provided. Just wear something sloppy to paint in and bring your sense of humor. IMPORTANT/PLEASE READ: Clicking the “Going” button on the Facebook event is a great way to drum up excitement, but it will not reserve your spot. **All questions and registrations must be done by email.** The cost is $35 (exact change / cash is strongly preferred for speedy check-in, paid the night of the event) and each class can accommodate only 10 people, so sign up ASAP at jennilesart@gmail.com with the word “Multi Pet” in the subject line. To help Jen help you, send a “head shot” of your pet no later than Friday, September 15.
