Abilene Chamber Singers
Heavenly Rest Chamber Music Concert Series – The Abilene Chamber Singers were formed in the Spring of 2013 as a sort of "Grand Experi- ment". In January of that year, Clell Wright and Travis Lowery, who would become the Conductor and Assistant Conductor, respectively, discussed creating a new choral ensemble that would fill a niche in the Abilene arts community. The goal was to prepare a concert program of light choral liter- ature to accompany F.J. Haydn's "Missa brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo" (the "Little Organ Mass"). The ensemble was then hand picked from musicians that were known to be able and willing to make a commitment to a high quality level of performance. The "Grand Experiment" was that each mem- ber of the newly formed group would then be expected to learn the literature on his or her own and come together for two rehearsals prior to the inaugural performance on April 21, 2013. The resulting concert was a great success and gained the Abilene Chamber Singers a strong foothold in the local arts community.
