New Beaumont Community Players Executive Director John Manfredi,brings his 30+ years of professional acting and directing experience to this 8 hour class for adults 18 and over. John Manfredi is an award winning actor and a member of Actors’ Equity Association, the Screen Actors Guild, the American Guild of Musical Artists and is a veteran of and television. Basic Photography Class
Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown – On March 24, we will have our popular basic photography class. It will be $75 with a $50 nonrefundable deposit. We have room for 12 students aged 13 and above. Any student between ages 13-16 need a paying parent that accompanies them. Some of the things that will be covered during this class are: Gear - learning which lenses are best for which scenarios Manual mode - how to know what settings to use without setting your camera to Auto Aperture, ISO, and Shutter Speed - how these three elements work together to achieve the correct exposure Composition - learning what is traditionally most appealing to the eye and putting your own twist on it Interactions - we will also explore how to get your subjects to interact with each other and or yourself so that you can capture what you want to capture Gear needed for this class - DSLR camera and at least one lens. Shannon Wright is a natural light photographer who is based out of Beaumont, Texas. She has been doing photography full time for almost 8 years. Shannon specializes in Children, Family and Graduating Senior sessions. Shannon and her husband Freddy have been married for 24 years. They moved here along with their 3 teenage daughters a year ago from Kingwood, Texas and have an adult son currently serving in the US Coast Guard. 6th Annual Hearts Committee Blood Drive
Apartment Association of Southeast Texas – The HEARTS Committee and LifeShare Blood Center are teaming up again to host its 6th Annual HEARTS Blood Drive. As always, everyone who donates will get free food, drinks and a free t-shirt. Area hospitals and clinics are in desperate need of these units. Someone needs blood every two seconds and just one donation can save up to three lives. With all the wonderful advances in modern medicine, there is no manufactured substitute for human blood. It must be provided by volunteer blood donors in the community. One in three people need blood in their lifetime. If you don't need blood, it's almost certain that someone close to you will. Don’t hesitate, donate!

Beaumont's Magnolia Brass Band Festival
Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown – Bring your lawn chairs and picnic baskets and join the Lamar University Bands for an outdoor afternoon band festival commemorating the "March King" John Phillip Sousa's four Beaumont visits in 1906, 1919, 1924, and 1928. This concert will celebrate the music of the Magnolia Band, a local Beaumont band conducted by Harry Cloud and his Magnolia Refinery bandsmen (now a part of ExxonMobil) as conducted by Sousa in January 1924. At that time, Lamar University was beginning its second semester and the Magnolia Band was nationally famous for playing the inaugural broadcast of KFDM ("For Dependable Magnoline") on Beaumont's first radio station. The afternoon festival will feature Lamar University's bands and the Community Band of Southeast Texas playing music from America's "Golden Age," when Beaumont was a booming oil town, in the historical reproduction setting of the Spindeltop Museum.

Basic Leatherworking Class
Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown – BEAUMONT –Did you know leather is one of man’s earliest and most useful discoveries? It protected early man from the elements. Later, it was used to make sandals, clothes, gloves, buckets and more. During the industrial age, it was used to make belts for machinery. Due to its durability and comfort, leather has been used for seating throughout the history of transportation and furniture. Spindletop Gladys City Museum is excited to announce its next Leather Working Class scheduled for March 25 at 1 p.m. Students will get to make a phone case while learning how to cut, tool and dye leather. They will add their own creative design. The class will be taught by Shane Granger, a self-taught leather worker who produces products such as knife sheaths, pistol holsters and belts. Students can see Granger’s work on his Facebook page ( The cost is $125 with a $50 nonrefundable deposit. There is room for 10 people to take the class. Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown is a replica of the boomtown that grew up around the Spindletop oil fields in the early 1900's. The entrance fee is $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and $2 for children under 12. Located on US 69 at Jimmy Simmons Blvd in Beaumont, the museum is open Tuesday – Saturday 10:00-5:00 and Sunday 1:00 – 5:00.

Beaumont Destination Training Tour - 2018
City of Beaumont - Government – The Beaumont Convention & Visitors Bureau's Destination Training is an award-winning program designed to educate and inspire a renewed sense of pride in your community. This free program consists of a half-day (8 am - 2 pm) motorcoach tour of Beaumont that introduces you to the museums, history and culture of southeast Texas. Breakfast and lunch are included along with course materials. A graduation ceremony concludes the day where you will receive an official Beaumont Destination Training graduation certificate.
