Children's Book Club: Lost And Found Cat
Burchfield Penney Art Center – Join the Burchfield Penney for Children’s Book Club, the fourth Sunday of the month. The program includes the book, a gallery tour and art making project. September's book is "Lost and Found Cat: The True Story of Kunkush’s Incredible Journey" by Doug Kuntz and Amy Shrodes. This book was selected in concert with the exhibition "Community: Immigrant and Refugee Artists In Western New York" Family/Dual Member Level or higher: $20 for one child including the book. Buffalo Beer Week Event: The Wake of Rutherford B. Haze
Community Beer Works – We do this thing every year where we have a cool New Orleans style funeral parade over at Hot Mama's Canteen for the end of our non-winter seasonal, Rutherford B. Haze Belgian Style Wheat. This year is no exception; we're doing it again because it's such a cool and fun thing. Join us at 2pm for a couple drinks at Hot Mama's first, and then proceed to the corner of Grant and Amherst at 3pm to start the parade as we solemly walk down Amherst St in mourning for our dearest departed RBH. The SUFP Foundation is dedicated to ending abuse, discrimination and saving the lives of pitbull “type" dogs. This "type" of dog based soley on appearance is the target of extreme abuse, discriminatory bans and has been falsely vilified and killed for over 3 decades and it must end. Stand Up For Pits events help us to educate, advocate and save lives. Pit Bull type dogs are born inherently good and deserve to be protected, respected and treated with compassion and without prejudice like all life deserves. These events sell out around the country, save countless lives and continue to raise national and international awareness. We support other pitbull “type" dog rescues around the country and The Silver Lining Pit Bull Resce will be participating this year! Silver Lining will be bringing available Pibbles for adoption, selling merchandise, collecting donations and will receive 100% of proceeds from their silent auction. Also Fix-A-Bull WNY is also particiatping. They will have a silent auction, sell merhcandise, accept donations and hand out information on the vital work they do. Fr. Sturm Legacy Fund Luncheon
Canisius High School – This year's luncheon will honor long-time Canisius High School baseball coach Bryan Tenney '76. Canisius director of athletics Jim Mauro will talk about what's happening with the school's sports programs, and plans for the future. The luncheon is also an opportunity to hear from Canisius president Fr. David Ciancimino, S.J. Fr. John G. Sturm, S.J. ’35 was a standout athlete in his days as a Canisius High School student. After his ordination, he served as Prefect of Discipline at the school for 19 years. His love of sports and care for others lives on through the Fr. John G. Sturm, S.J. '35 Legacy Fund. The fund was created to build the endowment of the Fr. Sturm Scholarship, provide tuition assistance for NativityMiguel Middle School students who enroll at Canisius High School, and to support the President's Athletic Fund which helps cover capital athletic purchases.
