2017 Walk for the Climate
Peaceworks – Addressing the Climate Crisis is an urgent concern, especially at this time, with our government in the hands of climate change deniers and delayers. To demonstrate broad concern, we invite you to join together with caring neighbors from throughout mid-Missouri for Walk for the Climate, a Rally and 5K walk to be held on the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 24. This event will raise awareness as to the urgent need to address the climate crisis. We will gather and then walk as a group through downtown CoMo and the MU campus, carrying signs and banners. The Walk is also aiming to raise funds to support Peaceworks' climate education and advocacy work. While fundraising is optional, we really do need to raise funds and, as such we have set a goal of having at least 100 people raise at least $50 each. And all who raise $50 or more will receive a Walk for the Climate 2017 T-shirt. Sponsor sheets are available now at the Peace Nook and will be on-line very soon. You can print a sponsor sheet by clicking on this link: http://tinyurl.com/ycr39nen Whoever raises to most money and whoever gets the largest number of donations (minimum to count $1/km) will get a $50 gift certificate to the Peace Nook. Tell friends. Invite them to walk with you. Note that this is not a race. It's a group walk and all are welcome to join in. Those who are not able to walk this distance are encouraged to walk a distance comfortable for them, or to just participate in the Rally. Please note: We will gather at Courthouse Sq., 8th & Walnut in downtown CoMo. Registration is from 1:00-1:45. There will be live music as we gather. Please plan to arrive no later than 1:30. We will have a short rally from 1:45-2:00 and then head out for the Walk.

Naomi Punk w/ Maxito Lindo,Octogenarians: Presented by Hitt Rexx
Cafe Berlin (Columbia, MO) – Pre-sale tickets available at: https://naomipunkatcafeb.eventbrite.com Hitt Records and Cafe Berlin present... Naomi Punk (Captured Tracks) "DIY, psychedelic, primitive, lo-fi, and indie are all words used and abused to describe the current crop of Generation Y’s transgressive music makers, the aught’s response to the singular, wholly influential path laid out by countless ’90s lone wolf, road-doggin’ bands who shaped the current independent music landscape. But how many groups actually fit this model and do it any justice? Naomi Punk is one band that speaks to lovers of this formula, tried and true. Their music is unique. They live in Olympia, WA and record music themselves. Their aesthetic is potent, refined and considered, their web presence slight, and their hooks ultimately sugary." Florist w/ TBA
Cafe Berlin (Columbia, MO) – We're really happy to host a last min. show with Florist! Please help us spread the word and come out & support these sweet humans before they release a new album "If Blue Could Be Happiness" on September 29th, 2017 via Double Double Whammy. Florist WEB > http://florist.life LISTEN > https://florist.bandcamp.com/ Florist is, and began as the friendship project of Emily Sprague, Rick Spataro, and Jonnie Baker in Upstate, NY. The three started making weird sounds on synths and guitars together as a way to relate, and grew close. Felix Walworth joined as a drummer and collaborator when Emily moved to New York City and continued writing songs with the moniker. "The Birds Outside Sang" started being written as one result of a severe bicycle accident that Emily was involved in on Feb 11th, 2014. It began with Emily, still recovering, writing and recording in isolation, able to play keyboard only with one hand, sing, and bang on things. The second half of the album was recorded live by the whole band. It was a resurrection back into the friendships, loving support, and musical collaboration that first started Florist. "If Blue Could Be Happiness" is the second full length album from soft-synthesizer-folk band Florist. It is an observation of change; a full color memory album. It is both a goodbye to a past life and a declaration of great love to a new one. A long mourning song for the death of a mother, and a quiet celebration of the endless struggle that is being alive. Recorded by the band during May of 2017 in an Upstate New York schoolhouse very near to where songwriter Emily Sprague spent her childhood and where the band originated. The final track of the record, “Red Bird”, was written and recorded by Emily on the day before her mother died unexpectedly in March of 2017. The song remains in demo form on the album just as she had heard it. w/ TBA ---------------------- CAFE BERLIN DOORS 8PM / $7 http://www.cafeberlincomo.com/ https://twitter.com/cafeberlin https://www.facebook.com/cafeberlincomo https://instagram.com/cafeberlincomo/

Homeschool Singing class
Hummingbirdhouse Music Studio – This 8-week "Jump Right In to Singing" class for school-age children, 6-9 years of age, meets on Thursdays 3:30-4:15pm from Sept 22 thru Nov 16, 2017. Class dates: Sept 28, Oct 5/12/19/26, Nov 2/9/16. Tuition is $125. Since music is learned in the same way that a language is learned, students will first interact with each new song by listening, moving and experimenting...with no expectations for correctness. As they develop solid music vocabularies (singing tonal patterns and speaking rhythm patterns with syllables) students will have opportunities to sing alone as well as with the group, and to create or improvise as they are ready. We will be learning a variety of songs from the U.S. as well as other countries/cultures around the world because kids learn about the music of their own culture (mostly Major tonality and Duple meter) through studying music that is different (Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aolian, Natural minor, Harmonic minor and Locrian tonalities; Triple meter and various mixed meters). Above all, this will be a fun, active class. Children will progress forward from wherever they are in their ability to audiate (think music with understanding) and express themselves through singing, at their own natural pace and pleasure. We will be using the Jump Right In Music Curriculum created by Dr. Edwin E. Gordon and colleagues Taggart, Reynolds, Valerio, Bailey and Lange.
