Patrick Sweany at The Aquarium
The Aquarium – $10 advance, $12 doors / Age 21 And Up With special guests: The Knotties and Stovepipes More info: Patrick Sweany likes the spaces in between. On a given night (or on a given album) he'll swing through blues, folk, soul, bluegrass, maybe some classic 50s rock, or a punk speedball. He's a musical omnivore, devouring every popular music sound of the last 70 years, and mixing 'em all together seamlessly into his own stew. Yet, the one thing that most people notice about Patrick isn't his ability to copy - it's his authenticity. Like his heroes, artists like Bobby "Blue" Bland, Doug Sahm, Joe Tex, Patrick somehow manages to blend all of these influences into something all his own. After 6 critically acclaimed records (two produced by longtime collaborator Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys), Patrick has expanded his touring radius to 49 states and Europe. He's played premiere festivals (Newport Folk Fest, Merlefest, Montreal Jazz Fest, Telluride Blues & Brews) and supported international acts such as The Black Keys, The Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Wood Brothers, Hot Tuna, and others on tour. United Way A Day in the Life: Perspective on Poverty Sept 27
United Way of Cass-Clay – “A Day In The Life” is an interactive volunteer experience that depicts real-life scenarios faced by many of the families living in poverty in Cass and Clay Counties who are sometimes one paycheck away from homelessness or crisis. Choose 1 of 2 sessions: Session 1: September 19 1:30-4:30pm Register: http://bit.ly/2va6QYw Session 2: September 271:30-4:30pm Register: http://bit.ly/2tji5Ax Your child wants to play soccer after school. You’ve got to do something about that painful tooth. Just 7 days left on your bus pass. Do you, once again, depend on others for a ride to work? Say no to your daughter when all she dreams about is joining the team? Put off a visit to the dentist and push through the pain that keeps you from concentrating at work? What if you were forced to decide between picking up a needed prescription and putting food on the table for your kids? Many of us, thankfully, have never had to make these kinds of choices, but thousands of local people make these choices every day. Underlying many local social issues is a single but massive problem: POVERTY. One of United Way’s Bold Goals is to lift people out of poverty. To fight poverty, we must first all seek to understand it. Join us! “A Day In The Life” is an interactive volunteer experience that depicts real-life scenarios faced by many of the families living in poverty in Cass and Clay Counties who are sometimes one paycheck away from homelessness or crisis.
