Cape Fear Botanical Garden – Imagine a life where everything you owned was made by you or a family member. That was reality for Native Americans thousands of years ago. No stores, no restaurants. You had to make your own cup, your own knife, your own tools. During this presentation you will see tools made from stone and animal bone material, and see how clothing was created from deerskins. Watch thistle-fletched darts streak through the air as they are shot through a Cherokee blowgun. Witness the shocking power of leverage by throwing an atlatl spear and see the creating of fire using only two dry sticks! Throughout the presentation we will discover how the native plants and animals of North Carolina provided everything early native cultures needed for survival. At the end of the program, participants will have the opportunity to make (and take home) their own piece of rope from natural fiber using the ancient technique of reverse-wrap. This program is for ages 10 through adult. $12 Garden members, $20 non members. Spaces are limited and pre-registration is required. Pre-register: https://form.jotformpro.com/61726370303954
