Dismantling White Supremacy From Within
Westside Unitarian Universalist Church – As neo-nazi's, empowered by the current political climate, march on Charlottesville and elsewhere, we, as a society, and a nation, must do some serious soul searching to examine what lead us to this point. Why is this rhetoric and ideology still tolerated? How can white liberals continue to break free of those racist mindsets we were undoubtedly raised around which often have pervaded our families, friends, and sometimes ourselves. What is privilege and how can it be used in a way that benefits those who don't have it? We'll explore these questions, among many others, in this four part Adult Education series lead by Brittany Tedeschi and Gail Lockwood. All sessions are on Sunday in the glass classroom at Westside UU Church at 11:30am. September 24th: Introduction to Social Identity- Part 1 October 1st: Introduction to Social Identity- Part 2 October 8th: Privilege, Power Dynamics, and Microagressions October 22nd: The Breath of Our Ancestors (dual component with Sunday worship) Folks who identify as POCI (people of color and indigenous) will have the option to attend (these sessions are drawn from sources that are meant to be informative for people of all demographics) or caucus separately from this workshop if they feel more comfortable.
