National Geographic Bee for Frankfort Area Homeschoolers
Paul Sawyier Public Library – The Youth Services Department is excited to host the National Geographic Bee for Frankfort area homeschoolers on Friday, January 19, 2017 at 2:00pm! Each year thousands of students in the U.S. participate in the National Geographic Bee. The contest is designed to motivate students to learn about the world and how it works. Students in grades four through eight are eligible for this entertaining and challenging competition. With a top prize of a $50,000 college scholarship the contest is designed to spark student interest in the subject and increase public awareness of geography. The Bee includes three rounds, culminating in a championship round. The local champion then takes a test to qualify for the statewide bee. If the local champion is selected to participate in the State Bee to be held on April 6, transportation and accommodation expenses are the responsibility of the student. Students can prepare for the Bee in a variety of ways: check the National Geographic Bee website for activities and study tips, take the online GeoBee Quiz and download the GeoBee Challenge App. To participate, students must be in grades four through eight and must not have reached their 15th birthday on or before September 1, 2017. Only homeschooled students in the Frankfort area are eligible to participate in the Geographic Bee at the Library, students in public or private schools should check with their administrators to see if their school is hosting its own Bee. Registration is required and begins December 1.
