Chris Matthews | Bobby Kennedy: A Raging Spirit
Politics and Prose Bookstore – Matthews, political commentator and host of MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews, uncovered new facets of JFK in his acclaimed Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero. Now he looks closely at the brilliant younger brother Jack often overshadowed. Drawing on extensive research and interviews, Matthews charts Bobby Kennedy’s evolution from a neglected son and perpetual underdog to a strong and independent political figure. Defining Kennedy as that rare combination of pragmatist and idealist, Matthews traces his subject’s political philosophy back to Bobby’s decision to enter the Navy as a common sailor rather than an officer. This put him in contact with a wide variety of people, many of whom supported his presidential ambitions in 1968. This event is free to attend with no reservation required. Seating is available on a first come, first served basis.

Anne Fadiman | The Wine Lover's Daughter: A Memoir
Politics and Prose Bookstore – Anne Fadiman’s elegant and moving memoir of her father recalls him just as he would have wished, by spotlighting his abiding appreciation of fine wines. Clifton Fadiman, a writer, translator, critic, radio and TV host, long savored his memory of the vintage he sipped in Paris in 1927, and celebrated his eightieth birthday with an exact contemporary—a Château Lafite-Rothschild 1904. If his daughter feels her own taste for wine is less assured than his was, she nonetheless learned from her father how to take pleasure in well-made things. A renowned bibliophile, Fadiman wrote the classic Ex Libris and won the National Book Critics Circle Award for The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. This event is free to attend with no reservation required. Seating is available on a first come, first served basis.
