MOCA at the Mariners’ is an unconventional way to dig deep into The Mariners’ Museum collection. We’ll have drinks, games, and a totally unique experience exploring the galleries. Led by staff from the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) and The Mariners’ Museum, this program will have you looking at historical artifacts and artworks from an entirely fresh perspective. This program is in celebration of MOCA’s current exhibition Monitorium! An exhibition by contemporary artist Wayne White, which explores the 1862 Battle of Hampton Roads. MOCA at the Mariners’ is an adaptation of MOCA’s Art Crush. Professional photographer, Steven Canale, will explain how technique is more important than using pricey equipment. Attendees will learn 10 simple rules for creating compelling compositions within a frame, how to control the level of lightness or darkness in a photo, and more. Additionally, learn how to post-process your images on your iPhone without using expensive photo editing software. Canale is a photographer and photo tour guide for the REI Outdoor School and the owner of an on-location photo course business. Attendees should bring their fully charged smartphones and download the app proHDR or proHDR X for $1.99, (by eyeApps LLC).
