Book Fest: On the Sickle's Edge with Neville Frankel
Simon Family JCC – Back in Tidewater by popular demand, Neville Frankel brings to us his newest novel, inspired by his personal family history. On The Sickle’s Edge is a multi-generational family saga, told through the voices of three compelling characters: the endearing South African born Lena, transported to Latvia and later trapped in the USSR; her granddaughter Darya, a true Communist believer whose growing disillusionment with Soviet ideology, places her family at risk; and Steven, a painter from Boston who inadvertently stumbles into the complex web of his family’s past. This historical novel, political thriller, and love story is steeped in Russian history and Jewish heritage. South African native Neville Frankel is the author of three historical novels. After immigrating to the United States when he was 14, he attended Dartmouth College. Followed by a 30-year career in finance, Frankel now writes full-time as a contributor to Huffington Post and The Good Men Project. He also received an Emmy for his work on the Frontline/BBC documentary, "The Mind of a Murderer: Part 1." RSVP is required. http://www.simonfamilyjcc.org/culture-enrichment/the-lee-and-bernard-jaffe-family-jewish-book-festival

A Christmas Story The Musical
Ferguson Center for the Arts – A special thank you to BayPort Credit Union for their generous support of the Broadway Series! Based on the classic 1983 movie A CHRISTMAS STORY, THE MUSICAL, nominated for three 2013 Tony Awards including Best Musical, comes to hilarious life on stage! Set in 1940s Indiana, a young and bespectacled Ralphie Parker schemes his way toward the holiday gift of his dreams, an official Red Ryder® Carbine-Action 200-Shot Range Model Air Rifle. An infamous leg lamp, outrageous pink bunny pajamas, a maniacal department store Santa, and a triple-dog-dare to lick a freezing flagpole are just a few of the distractions that stand between Ralphie and his Christmas wish. The Associated Press calls A CHRISTMAS STORY, THE MUSICAL “a joyous Christmas miracle,” while The New York Times writes “I was dazzled. You’d have to have a Grinchsized heart not to feel a smile spreading across your face.” Additional performance on November 22 @ 7:30 p.m. Broadway subscriptions can be ordered by downloading the order form here. http://bit.ly/2ffWDTS
