Master Class: Boaz Sharon, Steinway Artist
Texas Wesleyan University Department of Music – Steinway Artist Boaz Sharon will give a masterclass to the combined students of the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Wesleyan University on Wednesday, January 17, from 10 AM-1 PM. The public is welcome to attend this free event in Nicholas Martin Hall on the Texas Wesleyan Campus. Boaz Sharon is a professor of piano and chairman of the Piano Department at Boston University and the director of the piano program of the Boston University Tanglewood Program. He is a Steinway Artist. An internationally renowned pianist and artist/teacher he is the first prize winner of the Jaen International Piano Competition, Spain. He has judged many international piano competition including the Top of the World Competition, Norway, the Berliner Philharmoniker International Piano Competition, Rudolf Firkusny International Piano Competition d'Prague, the Composers of Spain International Piano Competition, Madrid, Kaufman International Piano Competition, New York City and the Sterinborgh Piano Competition in Xiamen, China. He also is a founder of the Liszt International Piano Competition in Moscow (at the Central Music School). His students have won top prizes in international piano competitions including the Hamamatsu, Grieg, (Norway) New Orleans, Jaen (Spain), the prestigious Seoul Arts Center Award and Dallas International Piano competitions. He is the director of the Chengdu International Piano Festival since 2010 and previously was the artistic director of the Prague International Piano Masterclasses for 15 years. He was a faculty member of the International Pianist Certificate Program at the Ecole Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot in Paris for several years. A frequent performer in China Sharon has given recitals at the Shanghai, Beijing, Xinghai, Shenyang and Sichuan Conservatories and has performed and taught in many other cities in China. In 2017 Sharon will perform in Israel on Israeli Television (an interview with Professor Arie Vardi), in Brazil at an international piano festival in Sao Paulo, in New York City at Yamaha Salon and will perform the Brahms Second Piano Concerto in Brasilia, Brazil. He also will be teaching at the Royal Academy of Music, London and will be a judge in the 2018 Dallas International and the Olga Kern International Competitions. Among over a thousand of concerts and recitals over the years, Sharon has performed at the Steinway Celebrity Series in London, at the Gasteig Hall in Munich, The National Gallery in Washington DC, Seoul National University, Beethoven Hall, Seoul, South Korea and has performed with the Israeli Symphony Orchestra in Jerusalem. He has also given a 12 concert tour in recital and with orchestras across Russia in recent years and gave recitals and taught in 2015 at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and at the Gnessin Academy in Moscow. Sharon recorded for the Nonesuch/Warner Brothers Hyperion (London) and Unicorn (London) labels. His Nonesuch recording was one of the Ten Best Recordings of the Year in Newsweek Magazine and the Washington Post called him “a musicianly pianist with superb technique”.

North Dallas CrossFit – Welcome 2018! It’s time for the NDCF January Challenge. When: Jan 1-31, 2018- the entire month of January What: Teams of 3 will be presented with weekly challenges to complete. Details: Each team completes equal reps. There will be 4 challenges per week for the 4 weeks of the month. We will rank teams by days taken to complete each challenge! Example: Week 1 1- 1 day 2- 3 days 3- 2 days 4- 1 day Total- 7 points (fewer points = better score) There will be a leaderboard updated weekly! AND PRIZES!! A graduate of Princeton University, Mercedes also holds an MBA from Tulane University with a concentration in Human Resources Management. She is a cultural trainer, a consultant in organizational change, and a personal coach in the areas of marketing and business strategy. Mercedes has lived and worked in Europe, Latin America, North America and the Middle East. She has a deep appreciation for the impact of cultural competencies on performance and behavioral health.
