The Last Days of Summer Half Century Bicycle Ride to Sandy Hook
Trek Bicycle – Join The Bike Hub in riding a half century ride from Jersey City, NJ to Sandy Hook, NJ. We will be meeting at The Bike Hub located at 191 Monticello Ave, Jersey City, NJ at 8 am. We will be leaving at 8:30 AM. We will ride down, hang out on the beach eat some good food and take the Seastreak Ferry back to Wall Street. From Wall street you can transfer to any Ferry back to Hoboken, Weehawken, or Jersey City. You can ride single, double, or in groups, your choice, so ride at your own pace this is not a race. A good portion of the route will take you on the Henry Hudson Bike Trail which is both safe and smooth riding with beautiful scenery along the route, a portion of the route will take you along the oceanside. A support van with snacks, water, and a mechanic with the tools necessary for most repairs will trail the ride. All riders will be provided with a direct cell phone number to the support van crew in the event of a breakdown. The support van will be in the vicinity and you will be located via GPS to get you back on the road as soon as possible. Our meeting ground will be at "Parking lot i " on the northern beach. The Pier accompanying that parking lot and beach will have "Ohana Isle" food truck/restaurant. An amazing Hawaiian fusion restaurant which serves up fish tacos and pineapple ice cream amongst other specialties. At 2:45, will begin heading towards the Atlantic Highlands marina to catch the ferry to Wall St. We will be taking the 3:45 ferry back, but if you want to hang out, grab a drink, and a bite to eat there are a few restaurants around the "Seastreak Ferry terminal at Highlands" (326 Shore Drive Highlands, NJ). From Wall St. you can transfer to the ferry of your choice back to Hoboken, Jersey City or Weehawken. Clear instructions and a map will be printed and handed out to riders the day of the ride. EVERY RIDER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY AND WELL BEING. This route is not blocked off and you will be riding in the street with cars a good portion of the way. There will be people at various speeds who will have smartphone holders and have their google maps on,, we will mark those people so you can spot them and ride with one of them as a pack, but we suggest you have a smart phone holder of your own affixed to your handlebar or stem just incase you break away from your pack, you can easily find your route to meeting point. It's the last days of summer, so lets say goodbye with a bang! Between the bike, the beach, and the boat this should be a fun-filled adventurous ride! TOTAL MILES: 59 Please contact us for any questions or concerns at:201-369-0900, by email: buzz@bikehubcyclery.com and PLEASE SHARE THIS EVENT! SEASTREAK FERRY TERMINAL at Highlands (326 shore Dr, Highlands, NJ): https://seastreak.com/ferry-routes-and-schedules/between-new-york-city-sandy-hook-beach-nj/ OHANA ISLE FOOD TRUCK RESTAURANT http://www.ohanaisle.com UPDATE: If weather is bad this ride will be cancelled. The ferry does not run past October 1. There is no registration for this ride. Just show up the day of, as this is just a ride meet up function. This ride will take you on the road and is not an organized ride, but more a meet up group. We recommend all riders have smart phone holders and follow a bicycle GPS program such as "Google Maps" on bicycle mode. There is one section of ride which needs extreme caution. This section will be marked to assist riders. Riders will leave in groups of ten with the fastest going first, and the slowest riders going last. The slower riders have the option to stop at the ferry station which is 7 miles prior to "Ohana Isle" which is located on the Northern Beach area at Parking Lot i. We will go over all this prior to the ride. It will be a fun day! See you there!

Is Religion Good for Anything? An Existential Inquiry
All Souls Church, New York City – The Adult Forum Is Religion Good for Anything? An Existential Inquiry with Rev. David Robb In a culture where “religion” comes increasingly to be associated with unsubstantiated, unscientific and anti-liberal belief systems; in a congregation where more often than not people claim, “I am spiritual but I am not really religious,” perhaps it is time to examine what it is that we actually understand by “religion.” Perhaps it is time to face the question of whether or not a religious perspective has anything left to contribute to our sense of self or a valid purpose in the modern world. Join us as our director of adult religious education shares his personal odyssey and invites us to confront our own encounter with the mysterious otherness of religious insight.

The Humane Vision of Walt Whitman: Standing on the Side of Love
All Souls Church, New York City – The Adult Forum The Humane Vision of Walt Whitman: Standing on the Side of Love with Laurie Carter Noble Though holding strong beliefs, Walt Whitman won over opponents with charm and wit. He disarmed even his most vocal critics, because always, he stood on the side of love. Whether confronting critics of his poetry or those who held narrow and conventional views of gender, race relations, or all things sexual, Whitman never excoriated, denigrated or shamed. Rather he embraced all manner of humanity and proudly proclaimed that indeed, he “contained multitudes.” At no time has his compassion, his celebration of our differences or his profound humanity been more needed than today. Through his poems and letters, as well as his life story, we will explore the depth and breadth of Whitman’s vision and how it can inspire us today. We will weave together his life story, poetry, and selected letters to grasp how this remarkable person aspired to listen to his better angels. Whitman’s poetry we will study: “Song of Myself,” “Look Down Fair Moon,” “Reconciliation,” and “I Saw in Louisiana a Live Oak Growing.”
