The Crucible by Arthur Miller
McNeese State University Department of Performing Arts – McNeese Theatre’s 78th season will open with The Crucible by Arthur Miller. The play “holds a mirror up to nature” and shows how Fear destroys Truth. Based on historical people and real events, The Crucible illuminates how fear and hysteria can spawn the destructive power of socially sanctioned violence. Written as a response to Senator Joe McCarthy’s anti-communist “witch hunts” of the 1950’s, Miller provides a searing portrait of a community that allows rumors and hysteria to govern its moral compass. Brook Hanemann will direct this American Theatre classic.
