Trojan Horse 42: Lake Charles
Trojan Horse Method – Trojan Horse workshops have five to six students and one instructor per class. This allows adequate time for each student to present three to four times per session, six to eight times per day. The students are given a personal story at the beginning of each session by a witness/participant. During the storytelling process the witness discovers how to become a better storyteller by and the students learn how to experience an emotionally congruent story. After the story, a staff member presents a three-minute re-telling of the witness’ story, demonstrating how to create the space, slide in and out of roles, eliminate narrative, and connect the audience to the story. Students are then required to do the same. The goal is to TRANSPORT the audience into the story. THM teaches presentation skills, witness prep, rhetoric, and case framing. We teach only plaintiff’s and criminal defense attorneys. We will apply for CLE credit for the program. Case Framing: Alejandro Blanco will show you how to structure your trial using his “betrayal structure”. Fight Club: During fight club your performance is critiqued by your fellow students and the instructor with a level of honesty that the less seasoned, more sensitive participants find uncomfortable, hurtful and even painful. Those of us who know what it feels like to be rejected by a jury appreciate the hard truth, because we know it’s the road to improvement, winning and maybe- greatness. Speed Cross: Each student assumes the role as the cross-examiner and witness of the story for 90 seconds each. Students are interrupted as necessary and proper technique is modeled as needed. They tell us that in cross-examination, the attorney should be the focus and if we do it right, the witnesses’ answers won’t matter. We actually show you how to make this theory your new reality during cross. Modeling: We model and remodel every skill in trial until the student has it hardwired into them because it works. Imagine trying to learn how to tie your shoes as a child and your mom only explained it, but never showed you. It sounds ridiculous, but there is a school of thought that believes that we shouldn’t teach by modeling. Video Review: Every student is required to watch their own presentation on video and critique themselves. Most lawyers have never seen themselves and how they truly look to a jury. We have found that video review, although difficult for many, is a great catalyst to breaking old, bad habits and forming new ones. Direct Examination: Direct is the part of trial that must lawyers fear second most, after voir dire. Most lawyers do a very poor job preparing their client to testify. They spend a great deal of time on experts, discovery, motions in limine, but forget that their case rises and falls with their plaintiff/criminal defendant. THM not only shows you how to make your directs riveting. Your witnesses will be so prepared that they will appear “unprepared” and the fear and anxiety will leave them, replaced by calmness and confidence.

Lafayette Fitness Event Calendar – Go to http://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=45384 to register for The Danimal 2017. To learn more about Team ASAP and The Danimal, visit Team ASAP's website at https://www.teamasap.net/the-danimal-50k-trail-race ABOUT THE EVENT - Come challenge yourself with the Lake Area's only ultra marathon nestled in the heart of Southwest Louisiana at the beautiful Sam Houston Jones State Park. Consisting mostly of single track, root rich dirt trails, this race is sure to challenge even the most seasoned runners. The adventure is scheduled to take place Saturday, October 21, 2017. Everyone must check in by 6:30 am and there will be a mandatory pre-race meeting at the main pavilion at 7:45. The race will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. For those not wanting to "duck walk" a few days, we do have a 25k option and we even have a 10k option for the laziest of you out there. The cutoff times for the all three races is 8 hours. Everyone must be accounted for by 4:00 p.m. sharp. You will be responsible for your own entry fee into the park. The State has informed me that they will be collecting $3.00 PER PERSON! Earphones are allowed, just be courteous to those who are faster than you and get out of their way. The trails will be open to the public so beware of cyclists, other runners, and bird watchers. We will have 2 unmanned aid stations consisting of water and an electrolyte drink and 2 fully equipped aid stations. Grilling will start close to noon, so even if you aren't running, come grab a bite to eat and encourage those who chose to inflict this misery upon themselves. We will have burgers, fruit, cookies, and whatever baked delights Team ASAP member, Jeanne Claire, decides to bring. We will try to have what most ultra runners like but...if your nutrition consists of grandma's special organic cookie, I suggest you invite grandma. Families, your cheer squads, etc. are encouraged to hang out and grub as well. Awards will be given as runners finish. The race will take place rain or shine ( unless there's lightning). THE COURSE - The 50k will be four loops and the 25k will be 2 loops. One loop is as follows: Starting from the pavilion head east on the park road, turn right onto the entrance of the orange trail, follow the orange trail until it meets the park road again. Turn left on the park road for about 100 feet then turn right onto the entrance of the red trail. Follow the red trail until it meets up with the park road, then turn right, running along the park road back to the entrance of the park where you will see the purple trail on the left. Follow the purple trail until it intersects with the blue trail. Take the HIGH SIDE of the blue trail until it meets the fire lane. Cross the fire lane and enter the blue trail and follow for approximately three miles until it intersects with the yellow trail. Turn right on the yellow trail and follow to the trail head. At the trail head stay on the road turning right, pass the boat launch, heading back to the pavillion. That's one loop! To register, go to http://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=45384 For more information on The Danimal, lodging, race rules, etc, visit https://www.teamasap.net/the-danimal-50k-trail-race
