Zoo Atlanta joins conservation stakeholders, zoos, wildlife organizations and individuals around the world in observing the first-ever World Gorilla Day on Sunday, September 24. Be part of a new annual event highlighting gorillas and their habitats and the need to take action for gorillas in the wild. What is World Gorilla Day? World Gorilla Day is a new animal awareness day geared toward celebrating gorillas and empowering global communities to take action for all four gorilla subspecies (mountain gorilla, Cross River gorilla, western lowland gorilla and Grauer’s gorilla) and their conservation. As the home of North America’s largest population of gorillas, Zoo Atlanta is proud to join other organizations in highlighting this inaugural event. The event marks the 50th anniversary of the Karisoke Research Center, operated by Zoo Atlanta’s longtime partner in gorilla conservation, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International – the recent winner of the 2017 Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) International Conservation Award. Bring your old cell phone to the Zoo on September 24 to start today in making a personal impact on wild gorillas’ lives. Yoga at Charis
Charis Books and More/Charis Circle – Osatyam partners with Charis to facilitate Yoga At Charis: an all levels practice for the people by the people. Practitioners are guided through a series of yoga poses that promote wellness within the body, mind, and spirit. Yoga At Charis keeps a strong focus on breathwork and increasing full body awareness and connection to spirit. The instructor adjusts each practice based on the comfort level of the group and encourages each practitioner to move within their abilities. Practitioners will leave feeling recharged, powerful, and ready for the week ahead. With a rotation of Black, queer, body-positive, feminine identified instructors leading each session, we aim to provide a space where individuals from these communities can feel safe and affirmed in their practice. We welcome all allies. Because self-care is not a luxury reserved to those with financial privilege, Yoga At Charis is a donation-based class with a suggested sliding scale donation of $5-20. No one turned away.
