Acrobats of China ft The New Shanghai Circus
The Ridgefield Playhouse – In acts that often trace their origin to the harvest festivals of more than 2,000 years ago, this youthful and graceful company enthralls audiences with a range of demanding performances, most of them typifying Chinese circus and constituting a refreshing alternative to the Western tradition. Under the direction of Zhao Lizhi, the artistry, individually and collectively, attains levels that make it seem almost unfair to single out any act, from jugglers to the comic knife throwers and the bicyclist who finishes by piling about 10 of his colleagues aboard his vehicle.

Matador! Soul Sounds on StageOne
Fairfield Theatre Company – Matador Soul Sounds with Muscle Tough on StageOne 3/18 Featuring: Eddie Roberts (The New Mastersounds) Alan Evans (Soulive) Chris Spies + Kevin Scott (Jimmy Herring) Adryon de León Music + Kimberly Dawson (Pimps of Joytime) Matador! Soul Sounds is a band loosely based on the concept of Spanish bullfighting. A common misconception in America is that bullfighting is a feat of one man versus one bull—in reality, bullfighting is largely a team effort by a matador and his cuadrilla. Born from the vision of Eddie Roberts (The New Mastersounds) and Alan Evans (Soulive) their fierce cuadrilla consists of keyboardist Chris Spies and bassist Kevin Scott (Jimmy Herring) as the band’s “banderilleros". Adding a feminine energy to the band are Adryon de León and Kimberly Dawson (Pimps of Joytime) on vocals. Combining the dynamism of each bandleader, the music they have created is brand new, hard-hitting and drenched with their shared musical passions - jazz, funk & soul.
