Contemporary Art Center of Peoria – Oil Painting Thursdays, January 18-March 8 6:30-9:00pm (eight 2 ½-hour sessions) Janet Keturi, instructor Ages 15 & up minimum students: 6, maximum: 12 CAC member: $85, non-member: $95 Registration deadline: January 11 Oil painting is a traditional paint medium that is fun to learn and explore. Learn how to paint with oil paints, add oil paint to your existing palette or enhance the skills you already have. Learn to paint from a still life or your favorite photo reference. Photo references or references must not be a copyrighted material and it is encouraged to be created by the artist. Instruction on taking your own photographs for references can be provided, if desired. The goal is to learn foundations, paint independently and create original art. Bring all of your supplies and your subject of choice (a photo, photos, drawing, design or object, etc.) to the first class. Some previous art instruction is recommended but not required. Cartooning With The Cartoon Hunter
Contemporary Art Center of Peoria – Cartooning With The Cartoon Hunter Saturday, January 20 1:00-3:00 pm (one 3-hour session) J.M. Hunter, instructor 4 students minimum, 10 students maximum Ages 8 and up. Adults are welcome to accompany your child. CAC member: $20, non-member: $25 Registration Deadline: January 13 This is an introductory workshop using pastels in cartooning and character making. Join artist J.M. Hunter, aka The Cartoon Hunter, in learning about basic drawing principals and color theory while using the awesome medium of pastels! The Cartoon Hunter will show you his process to refine basic shapes into a finished cartoon. Must be willing to have fun and explore your creativity! Figure Drawing / Open Studio Tuesdays, January 23-February 27 Time: 7:00-9:00 pm (six 2-hour sessions) Ages 18 & up minimum students: 4, maximum: 10 CAC member: $50, non-member: $60 Registration deadline: January 16 Artists are invited to draw or paint the figure from a live clothed model. A monitor will direct the model to change poses and provide guidance, if desired. There is no instruction but students are encouraged to seek advice from others in the class. Students must bring their own supplies and materials. Easels will be provided. Students may choose to sign up for the full 6 weeks or choose to drop-in fee $10.00 per class. Central Illinois Jazz Society (CIJS) – Kevin Hart & the Vibe Tribe with special guest Justin Dyar (trumpet/flugelhorn) Kevin Hart & the Vibe Tribe play a delightful mix of jazz including latin, modern arrangements, standards, and some original works. Kevin is the only vibe player around and one of the best. His band members are also top notch and put on a fine performance, not to be missed. Kevin and his various bands (including the Vibe Tribe) had an exciting year in 2017, with public performances at the Broadway Lounge, Rhythm Kitchen Music Cafe, Robbie's, The Iron Post, Urbana Free Library, Bloomington Public Library, Lock Stock and Barrel, Connie J. Link Amphitheater, Medici Craft, Beer, & Jazz Street Fair, Baxter's American Grille, and more.
