The Swearer Center at Brown University – Apply by November 30! Ocean State Innovate leverages the Medici Approach to bring together people from diverse backgrounds - who have deep passion and commitment to our state - to break down silos and make new solutions possible. Our 2018 theme is Food, where we will be taking on some of the challenges identified in the Rhode Island Food Strategy. Our goal is to support innovative solutions at the intersection of the themes of Health & Access, Economic Development, and Environmental Sustainability & Resiliency. OSI brings together community members and leaders passionate about food and introduces participants to a new toolkit to innovate: diversity as a driver of innovation. You should apply if you are passionate about food, community, diversity, or innovation. The event will run from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm on Friday, and from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday. Audubon Society of Rhode Island – Bundle up and join us for a night hike on the Caratunk Refuge in search of owls. We will call for different species of owls as we travel through mixed and pine woods. While we never know if we'll actually get to hear or see an owl, participants will be sure to learn a lot and have a great night hike. Wear warm socks and shoes or boots and dress warmly. Bring a flashlight. Hike will be canceled in the event of inclement weather or icy trails.

Mass Audubon Stony Brook – The “dead of winter” is not a good description when referring to the Quabbin! This pristine 18-mile long reservoir is secluded in almost 55,000 acres of uninhabited woodland. We will explore the area in search of Bald Eagles, Porcupines, Coyotes, River Otters, Common Ravens, and Pileated Woodpeckers. Adequate winter gear is a must. Bring lunch. Winter Art Classes for Kids at Linden Place Mansion
Linden Place – Spark creativity and imagination at Linden Place this winter! Linden Place Mansion is offering three Saturday morning art classes this winter on January 20, 27 and February 3, 2018. This three-day, morning course from 9am-11:30am is designed for young artists (ages 8-11) who like to do a variety of art activities. Students will unleash their creativity and make fascinating discoveries while exploring the 200-year old historical mansion, grounds, and carriage house. Students will learn to draw and paint in a beautiful, historic setting using a variety of materials while surrounded by exquisite artifacts and history. Taught by a professional, local artist and certified teacher, Joanne Murrman, activities and themes include portraits, landscapes, weaving and more! The cost of classes is $75 per student. Linden Place members receive a $20 discount. Class size is limited to 8 students so be sure to register early.
