Trans Prisoner Solidarity Letter Writing @The LGBTQ Center
LGBTQ Center of Durham – Please Join Us in Honor of the Second Annual International Trans Prisoner Day of Action and Solidarity... "As queer and supporters we know the terror of scrutiny, disgust, and isolation; for trans people in prison, those problems are doubled by the physical and emotional restraints of a literal cage. For decades, early queer activists showed active solidarity and support for their imprisoned brothers and sisters–they wrote letters, had marches, and demanded not just that they be treated with respect and dignity, but their total and unconditional release. Gay and trans prisoners organized with each other and the outside world." IT’S TIME to revive that tradition. Join with us on January 22 in shining a light on the plight of trans and queer prisoners. On this day, and every day, get involved in projects that support other gay and trans prisoners, and look into the other struggles in which Marius participates–it’s one fight against the society that is killing us, one way or the other. Live your life with pride, joy, and freedom, and extend those feelings to others; don’t let the walls of prison or society act as a limit...Let’s join together and show our conviction in supporting each other and ending prisons once and for all." -https://transprisoners.net/ " This is a call out/call in to action from Marius Mason. WSRC is a free social running club that runs through our community of Wake Forest every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm. Our group run begins and ends at White Street Brewing Co. followed by a social with the friendliest bunch of runners around and some amazing beers from White Street’s taproom. You don’t have to drink but you do have to love having fun and hanging out with the coolest, and sometimes, sweatiest people. The taproom supplies cups and ice water and many weeks a food truck will be onsite. For our weekly runs, there are two “official” routes that run either 3 or 5 miles, however, you can adjust them for more or less mileage. Directions/queue sheets are available each week. All skill levels and paces are welcome, we’re just out to have fun. And, as if being a part of a tight knit group of friends wasn’t enough, repeated attendance rewards are also offered for running with us. No purchase necessary, in fact you can’t buy these things – you can only earn them! WSRC rewards are for members age 21 and over. WakeLP Meetup—Meet Michael Monaco…POSTPONED!
Wake County Libertarian Party – NOTE: the date of this meetup has been changed from 17 Jan 18 to 24 Jan 18. NO MEETUP on Wednesday, 17 Jan due to weather considerations. (Although the Oak & Dagger does plan to be open.) Michael Monaco, registered Libertarian and candidate for the North Carolina Court of Appeals in 2018, will be our featured speaker. A lawyer with 15 years of pro-bono estate law experience helping ordinary families settle things by walking them through the Byzantine administrative process, Michael became interested in the appeals process while in the 1990s, when he studied appellate law under former NC Supreme Court Justice Robert Orr at NCCU. Michael will discuss his journey as the first Libertarian judicial candidate in North Candidate. He will address the question: "What exactly is the North Carolina Court of Appeals?" and articulate his vision of a libertarian judicial philosophy. And hopefully, per the theme of "The Tipping Point Starts Now," he can encourage others to consider running for office as Libertarians! Please visit his campaign web site at http://www.nc-monaco-2018.com and feel free to send the campaign questions at campaign@nc-monaco-2018.com…if they arrive before 17 January, Michael will address them at the meetup. And if you can’t make the meetup in person, catch Mr. Monaco’s presentation live starting at 7:30pm—or the archive of it later—on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWsMA0zJc3Q
