Daniel H. Pink: When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing
Left Bank Books – Left Bank Books and Maryville Talks Books welcome bestselling author of "Drive" and "To Sell is Human" Daniel H. Pink, who will sign and discuss his new book, "When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing"! Ticket Information: – A $30 ticket admits ONE person to the event and includes ONE copy of "When" – A $35 ticket admits TWO people to the event and includes ONE copy of "When" and a $5 rebate towards the purchase of a second copy of "When" at the event. Tickets available at left-bank.com/pink. Everyone knows that timing is everything. But we don’t know much about timing itself. Our lives are a never-ending stream of “when” decisions: when to start a business, schedule a class, get serious about a person. Yet we make those decisions based on intuition and guesswork. Timing, it’s often assumed, is an art. In "When," Pink shows that timing is really a science. Drawing on a rich trove of research from psychology, biology, and economics, Pink distills cutting-edge research and data on timing and synthesizes them into a fascinating, readable narrative packed with irresistible stories and practical takeaways that give readers compelling insights into how we can live richer, more engaged lives. Please note: those who purchase a ticket and do not attend the event must pick up their copy of "When" or contact Left Bank Books to arrange for shipping within 60 days of the event.

The Bad Plus
Jazz St. Louis – After 17 years together, and a decade-long tradition with Jazz St. Louis, The Bad Plus announced a major change in the band’s infrastructure last spring. Longtime pianist Ethan Iverson will be leaving the group, with Philadelphia native Orrin Evans joining the band in 2018. With Iverson’s final engagement set for December 2017, bassist Reid Anderson and drummer David King will debut the NEW version of The Bad Plus, with Evans, at the Bistro! With the new lineup, the band continues their long-standing tradition of being a leaderless trio with a committed belief in what they’ve dubbed ‘avant-garde populism’ — the idea that serious music can be as engaging and accessible as it is forward-thinking and provocative.

Mundy's Bay w/ Tranquility, Angelhead, Reaver, Ian Cunningham
Foam – Mundy's Bay (Montreal, Quebec) http://mundysbay.com/ https://mundysbay.bandcamp.com/ "Montreal’s Mundy’s Bay fits so perfectly into that [New Wave] revival that it actually feels as though they was plucked directly from 1979 London. Their new EP Wandering & Blue is short (at five songs) but magical and leaves you wanting more. And while it does sound like something you’ve heard before, it’s just different enough to keep you interested. It opens with “Oceanside”, where you immediately get a flavour for what these folks are about – heavy on the drums and synth balanced out on the high-end with echoy vocals and feeling like your spinning in a dark club with lights dancing everywhere. Then they slow down just a touch and start channeling Morrissey. The song “Strange Feeling” (my favourite) is basically a mash-up of Blondie and The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven”. I sincerely dug this whole thing from beginning to end." - Emily Frewin, canadianbeats.ca http://canadianbeats.ca/2017/07/02/review-mundys-bay/ Tranquility (Bedford, Michigan) https://soundcloud.com/tranquilitymi Angelhead (St. Louis) https://angelheadmusic.bandcamp.com/ Reaver (St. Louis) https://reaverband.bandcamp.com/ Ian Cunningham (St. Louis) https://soundcloud.com/not_ian 8PM $7 All Ages
