Shaw Neighb Safety Forum, addressing recent car-jackings. Monday
Shaw Neighborhood Improvement Association – Shaw Neighb Safety Forum, addressing recent car-jackings. Monday, Nov. 20th, 7:00PM @ MO Sch. for the Blind. With presentation from Ofc Slade from SLMPD 2nd Dist. Dear Neighbor, There is some very understandable anxiety in Shaw after a rash of recent car-jackings. I want to assure you that this has had a great many people's 100% attention over the past few days. Three of the four suspects are in custody, but very understandably our neighbors have many questions about these crimes -- how they occured, and how they may be prevented going forward. So the Shaw Safety committee has arranged a presentation from Ofc. Slade from the SLMPD 2nd Dist, to be followed by a Q&A session. This will be held on Monday, November 20th, 7:00PM, at the Missouri School for the Blind - 3867 Magnolia Ave. It will be held in the Multi-purpose room on the West end of the campus (Entrance by the circle-drive. Parking in back; overflow parking on Magnoila Ave or 39th St). This is a nice-size venue, but in the event of a large or standing-room only crowd, please be mindful of reserving seating for those who most need it. In the 5+ years that Ofc. Slade has been our neighborhood's outreach officer I have always known him to be a person who responds directly, forthrightly, and honestly. He does not shy away from any question, or sugar-coat any answer. He's always been responsive to our neighbors' concerns, and we thank him for coming. This will be a great opportunity for my many concerned neighbors to have their questions about these crimes answered; as well as an opportunity to discuss measures we may take to ensure that these crimes are deterred in the future. Please feel free to reach out to me with any and all questions. With admiration for my many diligent neighbors, and with kindest regards, Paul Fehler Shaw Safety Committee, 8th Ward Committeeman

Gay Men's Reading Group: When We Rise
Left Bank Books – Join the Gay Men's Reading Group (left-bank.com/gay-mens-reading-group-0) for a discussion of "When We Rise: My Life in the Movement" by Cleve Jones! By turns tender and uproarious, "When We Rise" is Cleve Jones' account of his remarkable life. He chronicles the heartbreak of losing countless friends to AIDS, which very nearly killed him, too; his co-founding of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation during the terrifying early years of the epidemic; his conception of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, the largest community art project in history; the bewitching story of 1970s San Francisco and the magnetic spell it cast for thousands of young gay people and other misfits; and the harrowing, sexy, and sometimes hilarious stories of Cleve's passionate relationships with friends and lovers during an era defined by both unprecedented freedom and and violence alike. "When We Rise" is not only the story of a hero to the LQBTQ community, but the vibrantly voice memoir of a full and transformative American life.

Wax Tailor - St. Louis - Old Rock House
Old Rock House – SUPPORT: Dirty Art Club WAX TAILOR: SOLO SET & GUESTS: After a successful tour of 25 shows across the US this year, Wax Tailor is back for a new US Tour in November. For those additional 20 shows, mixing music & visuals, he will be joined on stage by Charlotte Savary (singer), Mattic (MC) & he’s also bringing Dirty Art Club as the opening act. The french producer is releasing « By Any Remixes Necessary », a relecture of his last album where he invites a dozen of producers. This album will be a world premiere as it will be released in a new format called "Vinyl connected ». A defining figure of the european electronic scene, Wax Tailor’s unique sound lays somewhere between cinematic electro and orchestral hip-hop. Digging through the crates of the forgotten melodies, the DJ / producer crafts musical fantasies where silver era Hollywood and 20th century music come together. He has gained recognition through the years with five studio albums, two double live albums and about seven hundred concerts in over fifty countries. With his last studio album, “By Any Beats Necessary” (featuring Tricky, Ghostface Killah, Lee Fields, R.A The Rugged Man, Token…), Wax Tailor initiates a new take on the western frontier, leading us on a fabled road where Blues, Psychedelic Rock, Soul, Funk and Hip-Hop collide. Wax Tailor has collaborated with numerous artists (Ghostface Killah, Tricky, Sharon Jones, Lee Fields, Ursula Rucker, Keziah Jones, Aloe Blacc, Charlie Winston, Alice Russell, Archive, RJD2, DJ Format, DJ Vadim, General Elektriks, Daedelus…).

Busman's Holiday w/ Sam Golden, the Chair Enthusiasts
Foam – Busman's Holiday (Bloomington, IN - Joyful Noise) http://www.busmansholidayband.com/ A Busman’s Holiday performance begins with the thump of kick-pedal on suitcase and the tuning of acoustic guitar strings, two affable brothers quietly considering where to take their audience first. They may begin with an exultant and driving harmony or a ballad in a melancholy mode, but not before they have laughed and shared stories with their audience, patient and cheerful, assuring the crowd that they are in good hands. As Lewis and Addison begin to sing, their voices together evoke the Southern Indiana where their music was born. One can’t help but feel the presence of the songs’ characters in the room beside you, the music offering intimate details from vivid strangers. The Rogers brothers’ appeal has never been limited to a niche audience. Tested on the road for years, playing music at honky-tonks and roadhouses, moth-eaten lounges crawling with night creatures, punk palaces, last-wave folk huts, they’ve honed their skills and free-flowing banter to the point where they’ve been able to endear themselves to all corners.
