CASA of Marion County Oregon – A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer is a trained citizen who is appointed by a judge to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in court. Orientations are a great way to learn about the program, what it means to be a volunteer advocate, and ask any questions you may have. It is also the first step in becoming a Marion County CASA. There are many children in our community in need of an adult ally and an advocate. You can be a powerful voice in a child's life!

Uniquely Original: Annual Singer-Songwriter Showcase
Salem Public Library (Salem, OR) – Four outstanding acts were chosen from a crowded field to perform in the 2017 Uniquely Original Singer-Songwriter Showcase. The show, which features 20-minute sets of original music from each performer, is free on a first-come, first-seated basis. Featured acts will be: Taylor Brasil has been writing and performing songs since the age of 10. She has brought a style reminiscent of early Taylor Swift to many talent shows and open mic nights throughout the area. True North is an Americana/folk duo fronted by Kristen Grainger and Dan Wetzel. They blend intelligent songwriting and terrific instrumental interpretation with guitar, banjo, and mandolin. Tied to a Grizzly is a three-piece ensemble characterized by moody reverb, strings, and atmospheric vocals. Members Colton Michael Houser, Rebecca McDade, and Elizabeth Brock recently completed their first studio album, “Watching You, Watching Me.” Nathan Myers has been developing his indi-acoustic style since the age of nine. Over the years, he has played in many projects and bands throughout the Northwest and as far away as Ireland. Salem Public Library’s Teen Advisory Board will offer concessions for purchase at the event. The concert is sponsored by Friends of Salem Public Library.
