Design_Code_Build Level 1: Introductory
Computer History Museum – The Design_Code_Build program welcomes students in grades 6 through 8 to participate in one-day events that provide engaging hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) learning opportunities. Activities focus on problem-solving and innovation through the lens of computer science and computing history. Each event welcomes up to 100 students and features a keynote “rock star” speaker from the tech industry. Rock stars explores their personal and professional journeys and share insights that help to inspire students’ interest and curiosity. The program is supported by volunteers from the tech industry who act as role models and mentors, allowing students to meet and get to know real tech professionals. Level 1 introduces concepts of computer programming, as participants work hands-on with Raspberry Pi technology, write detailed instruction sets to “program” a partner through a life-size maze, and learn about the relevance and impact of computer history. This program is suitable for students with little to no programming experience and focuses on core concepts of collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, to help students to practice communication skills and gain confidence to see themselves as active, capable problem-solvers and future innovators. Please note that this program is suitable for students in grades 6 through 8. There is a $15.00 non-refundable registration fee per student participating in the event. Harvest of Peace at the Berkeley Shambhala Center
Silicon Valley Shambhala Meditation Center – Gather with us as a community for our annual Harvest of Peace. Members of Silicon Valley Shambhala will organize carpools to Berkeley Shambhala Center. Harvest of Peace, held around the time of the autumn equinox, is an opportunity for our community to gather, listen to teachings, and celebrate the riches of our local cultures and heritage. The Sakyong Wangmo will offer the Harvest of Peace address this year. It would be excellent to show our support by gathering together to hear her first Nyida Day address and celebrate the holiday together. We will mark this important community day with food, conversation, and group meditation and chanting. Long time practitioners and people new to the community are all welcome. Carpool If you are interested in carpooling (either to drive or ride) please contact Mitchell Blank by email at mitchellbank@sbcglbal.net. We will arrange more precise rideshare details as we get responses from you. Note For those of you who have not yet had the opportunity to visit the Berkeley Center, it is among the oldest center (if not the oldest) in the greater Shambhala mandala and both the space and the sangha hold this history. It is a wonderful space. Please join us for conversation, community, and consumption of food and beverage. The Berkeley Shambhala Center is located at 2288 Fulton Street in Berkeley, CA.

Alchemy Workshop
Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum – A spiritual, philosophical and practical study of the alchemical process of the transformation of the ordinary personality and consciousness of man is revealed according to the Hermetic Tradition. The process of the transformation of the human condition is beautifully expressed in the alchemical process as a true and authentic exercise of the soul and the spirit. This process is a veritable art, a science and a philosophy. The modus operandus of the alchemical process is explored through the symbols and teachings of the Hermetic Art, and the many beautiful and uplifting allegories and metaphors found in the many hermetic literatures, mythologies, and philosophies. Light is shed on the true Matter, the Secret Fire, the Vessel and the Athenor of the work. An alchemical drama entitled the ‘Alchemical Marriage and the Philosopher’s Stone’ is presented revealing the alchemical process. A presentation on the ‘Three Phases of the Alchemical Process’ which leads us through the spiritual and psychological experiences of the process as the Black stage (philosophic mortification), the White stage (purification and resurrection), and the Red stage (conjunction and the return of the work to earth where it began). The practical alchemical laboratory work will be presented as the ‘Rosemary Magistry’, creating an alchemical elixir which through correspondence will shed light on the Inner Elixir of Life. Discover the beautiful and amazing correspondences between the outer laboratory technique and the inner spiritual work. The alchemical process is a universal one, and can be seen expressed on all levels of being. Explore with us this ancient Hermetic Tradition which reveals the secret of the Magnum Opus and the Philosopher’s Stone of the ancient alchemists and the philosophers. Learn about the most profound of philosophies known as the Divine Science and the Royal Hermetic Art. The presenter, Steve Kalec, has been an AMORC member since 1971 and is presently serving as an AMORC grand councillor. Steve is also a Traditional Martinist, a practicing alchemist, and a lecturer. Steve`s Jungian studies led him to understand the alchemical process as being a universal one throughout all aspects of being. This realization has directed him to the study and practice of operative laboratory alchemy. He has studied practical alchemy with the Philosophers of Nature and has followed Manfred Junius through his many European alchemy seminars. For him, all aspects of alchemy complement each other, and feed a passion for the study and practice of the Great Work.
