LGBTQ Resources - UMBC Student Life – In recognition of Transgender Day of Remembrance, Spectrum will be gathering together with food, community, and support. The "main dish" will be provided by the Women's Center and Mosaic Center and we're encouraging Spectrum members to bring other snacks, desserts, or drinks to give the space a true potluck feel. Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. This potluck event is an opportunity for new and returning participants of Spectrum to come together as a community to remember those who have passed in addition to practicing self-care and taking care of each other. Transgender Day of Remembrance
The DC Center – November 20, 2017 marks the annual observance of the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TdoR), which commemorates those who have been killed due to anti-transgender hatred. The 1998 murder of Rita Hester, a Boston transgender woman, sparked the Remembering Our Dead web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Rita Hester's murder, like most anti-transgender murder cases, has yet to be solved.

Exploring WW1 in Film: All Quiet on the Western Front
Arlington VA Public Library – Based on Erich Remarque's anti-war novel, this film, produced in 1930, follows a group of German recruits during World War 1 as they go from patriotism to disillusionment. Join us at 6 p.m. for a screening of a student made short film about Arlington and WWI produced for the Document Arlington Project with Arlington Independent Media. Sara Steinberger, Co-chair of the World War I Commemoration Task Force will introduce the student's film. Student's short (12 min) "All Quiet on the Western Front" (2 hrs, 10 min) Upcoming films in this series: November 27, 2017, "War Horse" November 30, 2017, "A Very Long Engagement" During the World War I Film Series we will be collecting donations of toiletries for hospitalized veterans (travel and regular sized) such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, shaving cream, razors, lotions, toothpaste, floss, toothbrushes, mouthwash, personal hygiene items, etc.

While skill level is varied, there is no immediate instruction, which allows each student to practice their drawing skills at their own pace. The Life Drawing series at Hillyer Art Space is the perfect opportunity to practice your skills and independently work with access to a live model. While easels, chairs and artistic ambiance are provided by Hillyer, artists are required to bring their own drawing materials. Space will be limited to 30 attendees. Everything But The Turkey
Edlavitch DCJCC – Give thanks this Thanksgiving holiday by giving back! Help prepare over 20,000 servings of food for people in need in the DC metro area as part of Everything But The Turkey—an annual fall service project of the Edlavitch DCJCC. Volunteers prepare hearty Thanksgiving Day side dishes (to go along with turkeys prepared by our partners at DC Central Kitchen). The food made by volunteers will be distributed to over 90 local homeless shelters, transitional housing facilities and community kitchens, so those in need can have a special Thanksgiving meal. This Volunteer EDCJCC Day of Service is being presented to the LGBTQ Jewish community by GLOE - GLBTQ Outreach & Engagement at the Edlavitch DCJCC.
