Leaders of the Pack starring The Lovettes
Hoogland Center for the Arts – LEADERS OF THE PACK is a retrospective musical biography celebrating the major female artists from the golden years of pop music in the 1940's, 50's and 60s. The story is hosted by the charming "Lovettes,” three diverse leading ladies who take you through the top ten hits of the era through harmony, dance, narration, and multimedia production. Audiences worldwide have been mesmerized with the show stopping choreography, powerhouse vocals, and nostalgic attention to detail in more than 25 legendary iconic songs. Spotlighting the 1940's big band era of the Andrew Sisters, to the Rock & Roll sounds of the 50's with the Chordettes, and the 60's pop of the Shirelles, Ronnettes, Supremes and more, LEADERS OF THE PACK is the ultimate "ladies night out," appealing to all ages and walks of life everywhere who are fans of the girl group legacy. Although each member of the Lovettes sounds like and visually resembles the artist they portray, LEADERS OF THE PACK is not to be confused as a tribute or impersonation show. The show recreates the timeless energy and style of the original artists as they were in their prime with raw authenticity. The wardrobe, hair, makeup and showmanship in the music are hauntingly preserved to its fullest respect. In addition to exploring the songs and female singers of the three decades, the musical revue also chronicles historical events of the time such as World War 2, the advertising age, The Vietnam War, and the explosive civil rights movements. The fast paced script weaves its way through the patriotic 40s, the innocence of the 50s to the unrest of the mid-60s, forever changing role of the modern women. The Lovettes consist of Darcy Jo Wood, Jessica Lyons and Temeka Rameriz. The Lovers provide the musical accompaniment, complete with a 5 piece rhythm section and a full horn section specializing in Roots Rock & Roll. The hit parade of songs in the show includes Bye Bye Blackbird (McGuire Sisters), Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy (The Andrew Sisters), Lollipop/Mr. Sandman (The Chordettes), Walking After Midnight (Patsy Cline), Leader of The Pack (The Shangri-Las), Stop in The Name of Love (The Supremes), These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ (Nancy Sinatra), Proud Mary (Tina Turner & The Ikettes), and many, many more! LEADERS OF THE PACK will be presented on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at 3 p.m. in the LRS Theatre at the Hoogland Center for the Arts. The concert runs 90 minutes with one intermission. Star Wars Edge of the Empire RPG
Die Hard Games – We are starting up a new SW Edge of the Empire campaign soon. There are only a couple of seats left. Please let us know if you are interested. 1st week will be chararcter creation. We encourage you to have the book however it isn't necessary until week 3 for your character race & species. Life isn't easy at the edge of galactic civilization. Money, food, and other necessities are often in short supply. It takes a great deal of cunning, drive, and luck to survive, let alone get ahead in life. Many beings live through grit, determination, exploration, and often illicit or dangerous activities. Star Wars: Edge of the Empire is a roleplaying game that captures the visionary essence of the Star Wars universe, while focusing on its grim and gritty corners. In control of a character exploring the Outer Rim, you'll do business in places where morality is gray and nothing is certain, living on the fringes of both the galaxy and its society. In an Edge of the Empire campaign, bounty hunters, smugglers, mercenaries, and explorers not only rub elbows with doctors, politicians, and scholars, but they find themselves thrust into adventures alongside them. During these adventures, you and your fellow fringers will often find yourselves facing any number of challenges, from repairing a damaged starship or slicing your way past a security panel to exchanging blaster fire with hired gunmen out to collect a bounty. With little law or order on the Outer Rim, you must rely on your innate abilities, trained skills, and special talents to survive.

Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition
Die Hard Games – The Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game is about storytelling in worlds of sword and sorcery. It shares elements with childhood games of make-believe. Like those games, D&D is driven by imagination. It’s about picturing the towering castle beneath the stormy night sky and imagining how a fantasy adventurer might react to the challenges that scene presents. Unlike a game of make-believe, D&D gives structure to the stories, a way of determining the consequences of the adventurers’ action. Players roll dice to resolve whether their attacks hit or miss or whether their adventurers can scale a cliff, roll away from the strike of a magical lightning bolt, or pull off some other dangerous task. Anything is possible, but the dice make some outcomes more probable than others. In the Dungeons & Dragons game, each player creates an adventurer (also called a character) and teams up with other adventurers (played by friends). Working together, the group might explore a dark dungeon, a ruined city, a haunted castle, a lost temple deep in a jungle, or a lava-filled cavern beneath a mysterious mountain. The adventurers can solve puzzles, talk with other characters, battle fantastic monsters, and discover fabulous magic items and other treasure.

Live Through This with Dese’Rae L. Stage
University of Illinois Springfield - Visual Arts Gallery – The University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery presents “Live Through This,” a UIS Engaged Citizen Common Experience (ECCE) lecture and corresponding solo exhibition from photographer, writer, and suicide awareness activist Dese’Rae L. Stage. Stage will present her lecture on Thursday, September 28 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Brookens Auditorium. An exhibition reception will immediately follow at the UIS Visual Arts Gallery from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The exhibition will run from Thursday, September 28 through Thursday, October 19. Stage is a Philadelphia-based artist, suicide awareness activist, and public speaker. She struggled with self-injury for nine years and survived a suicide attempt catalyzed by an emotionally and physically abusive relationship. These experiences, coupled with the loss of friends to suicide and the lack of resources for attempt survivors, prompted her to create “Live Through This”. “Live Through This” is a collection of portraits and true stories of 180 suicide attempt survivors in 33 cities across the United States. “Live Through This” reminds us that suicide is a human issue by putting faces and names to the statistics that have been the only representation of attempt survivors in the past. Stage speaks at universities and conferences nationwide. She provided commentary for The Glenn Beck Program, Fox News and BBC Radio. Her writing was published by Cosmopolitan, Huffington Post, and XoJane. In January 2017, she received a SXSW Community Service award, the American Association of Suicidology’s inaugural Transforming Lived Experience Award and received Investigation Discovery’s Every Day Hero award. “Live Through This” has received extensive media coverage, including features in The New York Times, Associated Press, NPR, and more. Stage is featured in an upcoming documentary about suicide prevention advocates called “The S Word,” due out later this year. “Live Through This” is co-sponsored by the UIS Visual Arts Gallery, The UIS ECCE Speaker Series, NPR Illinois (WUIS) and the UIS Office of Gender and Sexuality Student Services. “Live Through This” launches Queertober at UIS, a month-long celebration in October that features educational, informative, and social events that raise awareness and provide support for sexual and gender minority students (LGBTQIA+) and communities at UIS.
