Broncos at Bills- 10am Live at Busbys!!
Los Angeles Bills Backers of Santa Monica – Pete has been up to it once again and he comes with tales terrific and not so in Buzzed at Busbys: __________________________________________________ THE DROP The Buffalo Bills dropped a deuce last Sunday in a lethargic 9-3 loss to the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte. Most of the post game discussion centered on an (arguably) dropped bomb by Zay Jones that likely wins the game for the Bills, so let’s get that out of the way… From this vantage point it was 80% on Jones and 20% on Taylor. Tyrod threw a pass that could have been much better (although it could have been perfect, depending on the route responsibility). Zay tripped over Thomas Davis’s feet, ran the wrong pattern (designed to go to the pylon not the sideline as described by Donald Jones), didn’t track the ball in the air well, and didn’t come down with what would have been a great catch. So he made four errors, and his teammates and coaches consoled him after the game - more proof it was on the rookie rather than TT. Axé Bahia Opening Day Programs
Fowler Museum at UCLA – Join us for an afternoon of programs to celebrate the opening of "Axé Bahia." At 12pm in the Courtyard, esteemed Candomblé elder Dona Cici performs a ritual blessing of the exhibition followed by dance and music by Viver Brasil. At 1pm, curators Patrick A. Polk, Roberto Conduru, Sabrina Gledhill, and Randal Johnson lead a walkthrough of "Axé Bahia." At 3pm, artist Fran Siegel gives a gallery tour of her exhibition "Lineage through Landscape: Tracing Egun in Brazil." From 1–4pm, families are invited to create a collage inspired by Salvador, Bahia. All programs are free and open to all. Parking available in UCLA Lot 4, 221 Westwood Plaza, directly off Sunset Blvd | $12/day About the Exhibitions “Axé Bahia: The Power of Art in an Afro-Brazilian Metropolis” explores the distinctive cultural role of the city of Salvador, the coastal capital of the Brazilian state of Bahia, an internationally renowned center of Afro-Brazilian culture. Featuring more than 100 works from the mid-20th century to the present, including a stunning array of sculpture, painting, photography, video, and installation art, the exhibition explores the complexities of race and cultural affiliation in Brazil, and the provocative ways in which artists have experienced and responded creatively to prevailing realities of Afro-Brazilian identity in Bahia. “Lineage through Landscape: Tracing Egun in Brazil by Fran Siegel” is a multifaceted drawing project developed during the Los Angeles-based artist’s research residency in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and the island of Itaparica, a vibrant center of the Afro-Brazilian religion Candomblé. A vast, forty-foot-long, irregular “weaving” made of strips of sun-exposed and patterned fabric crossed by lengths of delicate drawings of sacred plants on translucent drafting film and cyanotypes, the work will wrap around three walls of the Museum’s “Fowler in Focus” Gallery. Finding inspiration in the worship of ancestral spirits, or Egun, in the natural environment associated with Candomblé practices on Itaparica and in the vexed history of colonialism and slavery in Brazil, Siegel’s project can be read as a highly charged landscape of black Brazil, built from fragments that embrace its African roots.
